How to elevate the personalization of the iconic X.O decanters, to offer a truly unique experience for collectors?
/Concept
For Hennessy, we explored innovative ways to enhance the personalization of their iconic X.O decanters. We decided to collaborate with generative artist Florian Zumbrunn, and together, we designed a limited edition that allows customers to generate their own unique artworks. A robotic arm then paints these designs onto each bottle’s 'second skin'—a sustainable, paper-based case that serves as a canvas.
/The Artist
To ensure a truly unique experience, we needed technology that could unlock infinite possibilities. Florian Zumbrunn is an artist who 'paints' with code. The algorithm he created for this collaboration can generate millions of variations, each distinct yet maintaining a consistent aesthetic. Customers can choose their favorite colors and they will discover the unique artwork created for them.
/The second skin
The customer’s design is transformed into a minimalist version, then applied to the bottle’s “second skin.” To achieve this, the final image is converted into up to 16,000 individual color points, enabling a robotic arm to meticulously paint each one, point by point, onto the bottle’s surface.
For the launch of this limited edition, we invited a select group of collectors to be the first to witness the robotic arm in action and discover this exclusive release. They were able to generate their own designs in real time and watch the decanter’s customization unfold before their eyes, making the experience every bit as unique as their individual bottles.
